Yes I Want Fries

by nina on November 3, 2010

One of the turning points in my recovery was when I noticed that I would say “Yes” to having fries with my meal. This is an amazing feat for anyone who has suffered with an eating disorder and the mind numbing calorie counting, restricting and categorizing food as good versus bad.

I was in a restaurant yesterday with some friends, I ordered a tuna, cheese and tomato melt and the waitress asked if I wanted fries. I instantly and intuitively said YES! I love fries and there is no way that I would ever say no to something that I love.

What I have learned since I have been completely recovered is that the side of fries does NOT make you fat. Nor does the burger, the slice of toast or even the chocolate cupcake. What makes us fat, obsessed and disordered is the skewed view that we have of food. It is the obsession and the fear that makes us binge, starve and compeltely lose touch with our body and instincts.

Diets Never Work and Always Lead to Disordered Eating

I strongly believe that ANY form of dieting will always lead to failure and a worsening of an eating disorder. It may work for some people, maybe some people who havent had a tumultous relationship wih their bodies and food, but anyone who is struggling with or has struggled in the past with an eating disorder will never benefit from any form of dieting and restricting without it kicking off the old patterns of restrict/binge/starve mentality.

Give up your diet! Eat what you want, learn to get in touch with your natural instincts again and live with freedom!
