Hi Nina, Tomorrow will be 1 year since I have binged and purged. I still restrict a little, maybbe more than that. I have a team and am in therapy 2x a week. I meditate, do yoga , nia, walk and limit my gym time. My prob is that I still can’t handle all my thoughts and completely can’t seem to get on with my life. I am starting a masters degree in movement therapy this fall that I am excited about, but i am depressed (on meds) miss my coping mechanism, miss the total release, miss being empty. I did it, i’m doing it, but i’m isolated, can’t taste food , have a ridiculously hard time figuring out what to eat (everything grosses me out) and still suffer from body image issues. Most of the liteature out there is about how to stop the ED not how to go on with living your life.

Hi Audrey

First of all congratulations on being binge and purge free for a year! That is an amazing accomplishment and you have to give yourself a lot of credit for that.

The hole that is left behind does need to get filled up and that is why it is crucial to have new hobbies, interests, a support network and most of all – to get out of isolation. The isolation is the leftover from the eating disorder that wanted you stuck and alone.

Create a self love and self care plan for yourself that includes speaking to several people a day, going out, trying out new activities and not being isolated. the isolation also fuels the depression and feelings of emptiness and hopelessness.

It is difficult at first to make these changes, but the more you take action – get out of the house, meet new people, do positive and self loving things, the easier it gets and it takes your focus OFF food, weight and relieves the depression.

This is the key to creating and living a NEW life. But you have to get the ball rolling and TAKE action. Put yourself out into the world and amazing things will be attracted to you.

This is what I found really worked for me – give it a try, but the key is to keep taking positive action and not get sucked into the negative eating disorder chatter that can run through your mind.

Love Nina
